Jing Si Aphorism

迷信不如无信​​,学佛一定要转迷为智,离开众生的烦恼心,回归清净无染的佛心。

It is better to be nonbeliever than to be superstitious, faith must be guided by wisdom, let go of afflictions, revert to the pure untainted Buddha’s mind.

Jing Si Aphorism

戒慎不恐懼,要戒慎虔誠。

Be prudent without fear, be prudent and pious.

Jing Si Aphorism

信佛而不學佛,就是迷信;拜佛而不學佛,就是愚行。

Taking faith in Buddhism without practicing is superstitious; Praying to Buddha without practicing Buddhism is a foolish action.

Jing Si Aphorism

正信的佛法,不說感應,不說神通,唯心是佛。

The right faith of Buddhism does not talk about miracles nor speaking on supernatural power as innate Buddha nature is in one’s heart.

Jing Si Aphorism

正信的宗教在于心正,心正则气盛,气盛方能自在。

The right faith of religion derives from right-mindedness;
right-mindedness intensifies one’s energy, with reinforced energy, one would feel relaxed and at ease.

Jing Si Aphorism

无信与迷信二者,宁愿「无信」,也不要「迷信」。
信必须智信, 不可捕风捉影。

Between nonbeliever and superstitious, it is better to be nonbeliever rather than to be “superstitious”.
Faith must be guided by wisdom, never rely on rumors and speculation.

持心端正,佛心生起,心魔自破。

With a sense of integrity, compassion would be transpired, afflictions would naturally fade away.

Abiding the true teachings, one would be free of worry and fear.

心正,路正,走下去就不會偏差。

With right-mindedness, we would not deviate to walk on the proper path.

Jing Si Aphorism

人的观念如果不正,就不能正业,观念如果偏差,所做的事也易于出错。

If one’s concept is not right, one will never have the right behavior, when one’s thinking is improper, whatever doings will also be wrong.

Jing Si Aphorism

迷信就会疑心生暗鬼、问神卜卦,取信于签诗、筊杯,而无法真正深入教理。

Superstition causes suspicion, invalid faith in seeking divination from mediums and false belief in the verses of temple tallies; as a result, one will not be able to really penetrate deeply into the dharma law.

真正的普度,是发大心、立大愿,普爱一切众生。

The actual purpose of “deliverance” is to commit great ambition, pledge great vows and extensively dedicate great love to all sentient beings.

To become more free and at peace, we must learn to look at things in a positive way, and be more tolerant and broad-hearted.

Gratitude rather than complaint opens the doors to life.

Only the force of true, unconditional love,
can turn the tide of degradation in our society.

人既然生在世间,就不能离开众缘,
修行也不能离群隐世。

Born into this world we are always with people,
hence spiritual cultivation cannot be achieved in isolation.

只要能张开眼睛,
每一天都是我的新生之日,都是我做人的开始。

When we can wake up and open our eyes,
each day is the birth of a new life,
a new beginning to start out life afresh.

人生在世,但求一心正念,
心正气盛,心开合运通。

We must practice right mindfulness.
The right state of mind strengthen us and an open heart attracts good fortune.

不是因为他拥有得多,
而是因为他计较得少。

Happiness is not about how much we posses,
but how little we bicker over trivials.

爱要浓淡合宜,像清茶淡香,
若是太浓,则苦得喝不下。

Love is just like a cup of tea, when properly mixed, it has a wonderful light aroma.
If it is too strong, it will be too bitter to drink.

Jing Si Aphorism

過去的留不住,未來的難預測,
守住現在,當下即是。

The past is gone; the future is unknown,
Seize the present, Now is the time.

Jing Si Aphorism

口說一句好話,如口出蓮花;
口說一句壞話,如口吐毒蛇。

Kind words are like pure lotus flowers,
Mean words are like poisonous snakes.

做一個能包容的人,
不要做一個被包容的人。

Be a tolerant person,
and not a person who is tolerated.
